Review of the Starbucks Rewards Visa Card for 2022

Jan 05, 2024 By Triston Martin

The Starbucks Rewards Visa Card is a Chase Bank co-branded credit card aimed at Starbucks fans worldwide. And with the Starbucks card, you can earn points for free beverages, food, and other products. For your convenience, Select has broken out the Starbucks Visa credit card rewards, perks, and fees in the table below.

Advantages

You get 4,500 Bonus Stars after spending $500 in the first three months. Depending on how you redeem your Stars, you might save up to $225 at a Starbucks. The Amex Blue Cash every day, for example, offers a one-time bonus of up to $200. However, the redemption options for that cash back are more open, as it does not have to be used in a single location.

Regular Starbucks rewards points expire after six months if not used within that time. Your rewards will never expire if your Starbucks Benefits Visa account is open. After six months of inactivity, your Stars will expire if you close your account.

Purchases at Starbucks can earn you up to 3 Stars per $1. It's worth noting that you gain one point for every dollar you spend on a digital reload of your Starbucks Rewards Visa card.

The Cons

You may only redeem your points at Starbucks locations for food, beverages, or goods if you have this credit card. Like many other cards, you can't earn cash back or use it to pay for travel.

The Starbucks Rewards Visa does not have a special introductory APR. You will not be charged a reduced interest rate if you make a purchase or make a balance transfer.

To use this card, you'll have to pay a yearly charge. The $49 annual charge is less costly than the $95 annual fee on the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. On the other hand, the more costly cards typically come with more perks and incentives.

Considerations for the Starbucks Rewards Visa Card

Stay away from the Starbucks marketing frenzy. Starbucks® Rewards Visa® Card holders may be drawn to the card to demonstrate their devotion to the Starbucks brand, but it's important to read the fine print before deciding whether the card is right for you. Consider the following suggestions.

Low purchase rewards

Pulling this card out of your wallet unless you're using the Starbucks app or website and then using your registered card to make a transaction at a Starbucks store is the only way you'll gain the bonus Stars on this card. Meanwhile, let's examine those perks to assess whether or not this is a decent offer.

Few rewards possibilities

The Starbucks Rewards Visa Card may not be right for you if it sounds like a lot of work to get the most out of it. Your registered Starbucks card must be loaded with credit card monies to get those three Stars per $1; the caveat is that you must do it via the mobile app or online.

Limited reward possibilities

Participating Starbucks stores are the only places where stars may be redeemed. Starbucks devotees may not have an issue with this. It's a bummer that you can't transfer your Stars to another rewards program or spend your rewards in other ways if you're a travel or cash back buff.

Earning Rewards

You must first have a Starbucks card to take advantage of your Starbucks Rewards Visa. If you're not already a member of the Starbucks rewards program, you'll be registered and receive a Starbucks card. The rewards card will be linked to your Visa if you are already a member.

An Overview of Reward Programs

The process of redeeming awards is quite simple. After accruing points, you may use your Starbucks card to pay for things at participating Starbucks locations. It is important to note that not all stores participate in the program. You may use a filter in the Starbucks Store Locator to look for locations that accept digital rewards.

Who Should Use The Starbucks Credit Card?

If you're a regular Starbucks consumer and want to save money immediately, the Starbucks credit card is a great option! As a Starbucks customer, you'll need to be okay with just being able to redeem points for products within the Starbucks ecosystem. A cash back card like the Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card will reward you even more for your coffee outings, especially if you are a frequent customer of the coffee business.

Summary

Loyal Starbucks consumers who want to use their points to get free beverages and other products will like the Starbucks Rewards Visa. The card, in general, is subpar, with a $49 annual charge and limited redemption alternatives. The Amex Blue Cash every day is a great option for consumers who want to earn cash back rewards in various tiers—and with no annual fee. And if you like, you can always use that money at Starbucks.
